Cortisone Injections

There are many kinds of injections used as part of an orthopedic treatment

The simplest type are Cortisone injections. In many cases the local Cortisone injection is combined with lidocaine or another anesthesic substance.

The different Cortisone injections are not identical in their essence.

There are a few types of substances the most common of which are Depomedrol, Diprospan, Celestone.

The difference between the different Cosrtisone injections lies in their local and systemic dispersing, the dosage, their disassembling pace and how long their effect lasts.

Depomedrol has a medium lasting effect

Diprospan - combined lasting effect - short and medium

Celestone - A short and focused lasting effect

Generally the cost of Cosrtisone injections is cheap and goes up to a few tens of Shekels. It is important to remember that there are many side effects to steroid usage, both local and systemic.

Hyaluronic Acid:

Hyaluronic Acid, used to be referred to as "injections from a chicken's comb", It is a lubricant (oil like substance) of the joint. The Hyaluronic Acid lubricates the joint and "smoothes" the joint's movement. Also, Hyaluronic Acid plays a role in reducing inflammatory processes and allowing healing processes in the joint to complete.

The Hyaluronic Acid works based on two mechanisems:

- As a fluid that "lubricates" the joint

There are many types of Hyaluronic Acid compounds. The different compounds differ in consistency and molecular weight. I, personaly, prefer the ARTHREASE type Hyaluronic Acid - the product is made in Israel, made by bacterias and has, practically, almost no side effects.

In my experience, using Hyaluonic acid gives good results when injected to eroded joints and also in cases of shoulder pain and problems in tendon movement. Sometimes, it is possible to combine some types of Cortisone compounds with Hyaluronic Acid for improved results.

Situations in which I recommend Hyaluronic Acid injections are:

Cartilage erosion in the joints, frozen shoulder, trigger finger, tendinopathy, tendinitis in the achilles tendon, other inflammations.

Sometimes it is possible to perform combined injections of Cortisone and Hyaluronic Acid to maximise their effects.

The costs of these injections can go between a few hundred to a few thousand Shekels. I tend to choose different dosages and different types of Hyaluronic Acid according to the joint in question, how long it has been injured, type of injury and the patient in front of me.

Using these injections is safe in diabetic patients, those suffering from high blood pressure, heart diseases etc.

Shoulder model erosion that demonstrates possible placement for cortisone or orthokine shoulder injection. A partial tear of a twisted pillow and an emphasis on Supra Spintus is a good indication. Shoulder injection can relieve pain due to shoulder calcification. Thumb cartilage
